Meditation, through focused awareness, trains us to become observers and objective to the fluctuations of the mind. The more we practice this “on the cushion” the more this quality seeps into our daily life. We notice the gap between stimulus and response begins to increase creating the freedom and power to choose our response.
While the mind can wander the body is always in the present moment. We carry with us the perfect instrument to help bring us back into the present moment when we get lost in the past or future. Throughout the day consciously bring your attention to your breathe. Set a reminder on your telephone if you have to until it becomes second nature. Let the breathe be your anchor in the present moment.
